The meeting of the mascots: The Lakewood Lizard meets Hikonyan—Ann Arbor’s Japanese sister city kitty

Photos & video by Jo Mathis/AAPS District News Editor

When it was announced that the mascot of Hikone, Japan would visit Ann Arbor this month in honor of the cities’ 50th anniversary as sister cities, an all-school assembly was soon planned at Lakewood Elementary School.

The meeting of the mascots was a hit with students, staff and parents alike.

And if you missed Hikonyan, you’re in luck. The Japanese feline will make an appearance Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ann Arbor District Library downtown.

As for the Lakewood Lizard … his next move is anyone’s guess.
