Skywell Club hosts 5th annual Skywell Wellness Expo on Wednesday

Wellness is about physical, social and emotional well-being and students at
Skyline High School are leading the way by bringing awareness and wellness
resources to the student body during the 5th annual SkyWell Wellness Expo on Wednesday,
February 6, from 8:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. at Skyline.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m,  SkyWell will team up with the PTSO to host a special
presentation on safe teen driving called Don’t SKRRT! This event is free and open to the public.  It will be held in the Media Center and participants will be asked to Take The Pledge to drive safely.

More than 12 community organizations have joined in to support SkyWell’s wellness and safe driving
campaigns, and also to increase participation throughout the school.

     “Our Health and Medicine
magnet students are instrumental each year, helping to identify student wellness priorities and outreach activities,” said lead teacher Dusti Vincent.   “Together with the SkyWell Club, open to all students, our goal is to help students realize that they have the power to maintain and improve their own health, and also improve the wellness culture at Skyline.”

This year, SkyWell has launched an anti-vaping campaign, and the driving safety campaign
kicked off in January using funds from Michigan’s Strive For A Safe Drive (#S4SD) program. In
the Spring, SkyWell will host its annual Walk for Wellness to promote physical activity.

This year’s Expo includes presentations and interactive displays from the Ann Arbor Police
Department, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center, UofM Mott Pediatric Hospital,
Project Healthy Schools, Ozone House, Ann Arbor Y, UofM Childhood Disparities Research Lab,
Washtenaw County Road Commission, New Oakland Behavioral Health, and more.
