Skyline High School presents backstage farce “Noises Off” March 15-17

Skyline High School Theatre is proud to present the Tony Award-winning play Noises Off by Michael Frayn. Directed by Anne Marie Roberts, Noises Off is a roller coaster, side-splitting look at theatre – inside and out – as a hapless troupe of actors attempt to mount the dreadful comedy Nothing On March 15, 16, and 17.

                                                                                Jalen Steudle

With breakneck pace and a rich gallery of characters, Noises Off, follows the on- and off-stage antics of a mediocre English touring company as they stumble from dress rehearsal to disastrous closing night of their comedic play, Nothing On. Absolutely everything that can go wrong does. Yet, the show must go on; despite the catastrophe being played out on stage and the vicious antics among the actors backstage.  All-the-while, an ill-fated tray of sardines mysteriously appears and disappears.

“This play-within-a-play captures a touring theatre troupe’s production of Nothing On in three stages: dress rehearsal, the opening performance, and a performance towards the end of a debilitating run,” says Roberts.  “Frayne gives us a window into the inner workings of theatre behind the scenes, progressing from flubbed lines and missed cues in the dress rehearsal to mounting friction between cast members in the final performance.

Brimming with slapstick  comedy, Noises Off is a delightful backstage farce, complete with slamming doors, falling trousers, and — of course — flying sardines!”

“Noises Off is a perfect comedy” says Jalen Steudle, who plays the brash director of the play within the play.  “It’s really highlights everything beautiful and joyful about theatre, and all the craziness that goes on behind the scenes. The play really makes you feel like you are part of the production.”

“If you enjoy a good laugh, this production is definitely for you,” adds Roberts. “New York Times critic Frank Rich called it ‘the funniest play written in my lifetime.’ It really will keep you laughing in the aisles.”
