Skyline Equestrian team wins district championship

The Skyline Equestrian team swept the Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association District series by winning the third meet, securing its third district championship in four years and earning a trip to the MIHA Regional Championships.

Senior Co-captain Cece Simonsen led the scoring with 48 points. Madeline Turner and Ben Ehrlich  turned in strong performances scoring 41 and 34  points respectively. Scoring was rounded out by Ceclia Lundberg 31 points, Allie Kier 24 points and Lysette Klesser 20 points for a total of 198 points. 

Skyline swept the showmanship segment of the competition with first place  wins in all three classes (Simonsen and Ehrlich). Other first place finishes included Saddle Seat Riding Pattern (Simonsen), Western Bareback (Turner), Trail Class (Kier), Flag Race (Kessler) and Two Rider Relay Race (Kessler and Turner).

The Skyline Equestrian Team is coached by David Field of Ann Arbor and Kimberly Vontom of Dexter.

The Regional Championships will be held Sept. 28 – 30 in Mason.
