Saying farewell: Reception honoring Roberts slated for Oct. 7

A farewell reception honoring Ann Arbor Public Schools Superintendent Todd Roberts is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Skyline High School Commons, 2552 N. Maple Road, Ann Arbor.

His final day with the district will be Friday, Oct. 8 as he moves south to become chancellor of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. Roberts and his family are leaving Ann Arbor to be closer to their extended families.

Deputy Superintendent for Operations Robert Allen has been appointed interim superintendent as the AAPS Board of Education searches for a permanent replacement for Roberts.  Ray & Associates, a professional services firm, will lead the search. The Iowa-based company was selected Sept. 29 by the school board; members had narrowed the firms down to two after interviewing finalists on Sept. 22.

The board is expected to have a new superintendent in place by July 1, 2011.
