Tim VanRiper, 18, a graduating Pioneer High School senior, has been selected as Young Citizen of the Year by AnnArbor.com.
An accomplished musician, VanRiper plays six instruments and has had the lead in five Pioneer musicials, according to the story by freelance writer Janet Miller. He has done humanitarian work both in his back yard and around the world.
“I’ve never met a more well-rounded, mature person at 18 years old than Tim,” Douglas Brown, one of two people who nominated VanRiper, said in the story. “He seems to do everything and he has such a social conscience.” He was also nominated by Crystal Gadegbeku, a physician at the University of Michigan Health System.
He is the son of Sharon VanRiper and John VanRiper; John VanRiper is director of Information Technology for The Ann Arbor Public Schools.
