This gala concert showcases the orchestras of all Ann Arbor middle schools, plus Skyline, Huron, and Pioneer high schools

The Ann Arbor Public Schools Music Department will present Orchestra Night on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Hill Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

This gala concert showcases the orchestras of all Ann Arbor middle schools,  plus Skyline, Huron, and Pioneer High Schools playing wonderful music in U-M’s Hill Auditorium. More than 1000 students perform in this annual event featuring the orchestras of the Ann Arbor Public Schools.

Our high school symphony orchestras perform the same editions of major works as professional orchestras.
Huron High School Symphony Orchestra will perform the second movement of Symphony Number 10 by Dimitri Shostakovich and a newly commissioned work by U of M composer Evan Chambers entitled “Being Time” in honor of legendary AAPS and U of M string teacher Elizabeth A. H. Green.

Pioneer High School Symphony Orchestra has prepared the final two movements of Moussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”

Skyline High School has programmed the Romeo and Juliet Overture by Peter Tchaikovsky.

The following clinicians and guest conductors have helped our students:

Alan MacNair, longtime award-winning director at Troy HS: clinician with Clague Middle School.
Diane Winder, cello professor at EMU: clinician with Ann Arbor Open and STEAM Middle School
Kevin Miller, orchestra director at EMU: clinician with Forsythe Middle School.
Arie Lipsky, conductor of the Ann Arbor Symphony: clinician with Slauson Middle School and guest conductor with Skyline High School.

Come and join us to hear our public school students play music of the masters in a beautiful setting!
