First grader spells pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

Bryant first grader Khara, who is blind, does well hearing sounds in words and has quickly mastered the spelling words her teacher Valeska Bass gives her.

So Bass decided to give Khara a challenge word to learn within two weeks. Khara learned the word within four days. Khara first brailled the word out, then each day she would learn the spelling and meaning of a new chunk of the word until she could spell the entire word.

Here she is spelling … get ready for it …
“pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.”
