District supports A2Fiber effort

The Ann Arbor Public Schools is supporting the City of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan in an effort to bring Google’s broadband high-speed network to Ann Arbor in a campaign titled A2Fiber. (a2fiber.com)

Google is hosting a contest to decide which community will receive the install for this high-speed service.

Google Fiber would:
• Increase internet access 100 times faster than current cable/DSL.
• Allow for movies to be downloaded in only 5 minutes.
• Allow video conferencing without connection hiccups.
• Attract high-tech companies to Ann Arbor.

For the Ann Arbor Public Schools, the project would increase the bandwidth and speed of delivery for the district’s networks. “We believe Ann Arbor is the perfect community for this trial install,” said Director of Communications Liz Margolis.
