District seeks cost savings with operations review

The Board of Education voted Dec. 11 to approve a bid for conducting a management operations review of district administration.

Plante Moran will conduct a management operations review to analyze processes and operations in the departments of finance, human resources, instructional technology and operations (custodial services and maintenance). The review, which was requested by the BOE, may include other departments if deemed necessary.

Plante Moran was one of four companies who submitted bids. The others were the Robert Bob Group; McConnell, Jones, Lanier and Murphy, LLC; and Management Advisory Group International, Inc.

Plante Moran is the same company with a five-year-contract to conduct the district’s annual financial audit. The company will use a separate division, which is located in another city, along with Rahmberg, Stover and Associates, LLC to conduct the management operations review in order to ensure that the divisions between the two contracts remain distinct.

The operations management review will cost the district $40,000 to $45,000.

Why is the district conducting such a review? “This is something we do to improve our efficiencies,” said AAPS Finance Director Nancy Hoover. “Hopefully we can find savings that we can put back into the classroom.”
