Deputy Superintendent named Human Resource Professional of the Year

AAPS Deputy Superintendent Human Resources/Legal Counsel Dave Comsa holds the MASPA Michigan Human Resource Professional of the Year AwardBy Andrew Cluley

Deputy Superintendent for Human Resources and Legal Counsel David Comsa has been named the Michigan Association of School Personnel Administrators Human Resource Professional of the Year. Comsa received the recognition at the MASPA Winter Conference last week.

MASPA past president David Rilley says the annual award is presented to an individual that’s not only committed to their own development but also demonstrates a commitment to help teachers, principals and other school staff to become even better in the profession.

Rilley says in his over 20 year career Comsa has worked tirelessly to support the children in the Ann Arbor Public Schools and before that for students in Flint. He says Comsa has also supported the human resources professionals he worked with in both districts, as well as HR professionals across the state. “He really has always helped really everybody associated with school HR,” Rilley says. “He’s the first one out there when he sees a legal opinion or court case he’s quick to share with us.”

Superintendent Jeanice Swift congratulated Comsa’s recognition, highlighting his commitment and laser focus on what is right, fair, and best for the organization. She describes Comas as a calm and quiet leader whose quick wit and easy smile make the load feel a little lighter on the AAPS team each day.

Swift says the work of human resource professionals is crucial to quality Pre-K through 12 public education programs. “They ensure that we have the very best teachers, support staff and leaders in front of our children every day,” Swift says. “Dave never takes this critical responsibility lightly. His compass is always set to what is right, appropriate and best for our children.”Comsa celebrates the Michigan Human Resource Professional of the Year Award with some of his co-workers
