Carpenter pupils love their state

Carpenter Elementary School third-graders love their state and they show it through their “Michigan Concert.” Favorite people (Bo Schembechler, among others) were featured, as well as descriptions of favorite Great Lakes including the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The Ann Arbor Public Schools PTO Council Advocacy Committee continues its work, preparing for communitywide activities to raise awareness about decreasing school funding as well as organizing meetings with key players who can make a difference at the state level.The next meeting of the group will be Tuesday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Balas Administration building.

The Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation has launched a campaign to raise $1 million for public education. “There is no white knight riding in to save the Ann Arbor Public Schools. We have to do this ourselves,” said the group’s executive director.

Pioneer High School was selected it as a Grammy Signature Gold School, one of only two in the nation to receive the award this week. The school earned $5,000 for its music program.

The group announced Pioneer’s honor as part of it’s annual “Grammy Signature Schools” program. A total of 12 schools across the nation were honored through the program, with cash awards from $1,000 to $5,000 each.

Ann Arbor Public Schools Superintendent Todd Roberts presented a detailed analysis of his proposed budget to the Ann Arbor Board of Education on Wednesday, March 24. A downloadable PDF page is available here that offers details about this proposal.

The Ann Arbor Public Schools is supporting the City of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan to bring Google’s broadband high-speed network to Ann Arbor.
