Ann Arbor football rivalry returns to the pie-eating table

Pioneer, Huron square off for breast cancer research

They’re back at it this fall: Football players from Pioneer and Huron high schools will host their 2nd annual Pioneer-Huron Pie-Eating Contest to raise money for breast cancer research.

The teams will square off on Monday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. at Morgan & York Specialty Foods Cafe, 1928 Packard, near Stadium.

Both teams are raising awareness and funds for the “Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk” that will take place in Gallup Park on Oct. 23 and each school is planning to sponsor a team in the event. Last year, proceeds went to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, sponsored by the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The winning school will be announced at the walk. Visit http://main.acsevents.org and click on the “Making Strides” logo at the bottom of the page to search for your team and make a donation. Donations can be taken right up until the walk date.  A link to Pioneer’s page can also be found at pihifootball.com

The pie eating event is part of a weeklong series of cross-town rivalry events culminating in the annual gridiron match-up. Pioneer and Huron varsity football teams will square off this year on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Huron High School.
