30 seconds with: The Summer ESL Academy’s ‘road trip’ for icy treats

Video by Jo Mathis/AAPS District News Editor

A quick walk for an icy treat was the perfect way for the Summer ESL Academy’s 240 students to take a break recently.

The Summer ESL Academy at Scarlett Middle School teaches English Learners (EL) entering 4-8 grades reading, writing and speaking English through an integrated science/social studies curriculum. The program is a partnership between AAPS and the University of Michigan School of Education.

The students walked in shifts up the street to La Pina Loca for a chance to watch local business owners in action—and cool down just a bit.
